Readfield Public Library Design Charrette

The Readfield Community Library located in Readfield Maine had its beginnings in the early 1960s. All community activities were held in this building including the Lions Club, Boy and Girl Scouts, dancing classes, Home Extension groups, social gatherings, and community meetings of all sorts. The two front rooms were allocated for library use and contained a few wall bookcases.
The town of Readfield was looking to renovate the existing library. The current building is of historic colonial style and is a statement to the town of Readfield and it is important to uphold this image. The library is a hub of the Readfield community and must be more inviting to its people. The spaces within the library are too separated from one another. The second floor in the current library is mostly unused and does not support the needs of its community.,
This runner up solution of the Readfield Public Library is the result of a design charrette by a team of architecture students at the University of Maine at Augusta.
